Keto Electrolyte Drink
One of the downsides to a ketogenic lifestyle is the electrolyte imbalance that is created when you body washes all of your potassium, magnesium and sodium away when it eliminates the excess water in your body.
When you first start your new keto diet and eliminate carbohydrates, your body is not very happy. It reacts in every negative way that it can to convince you to grab a doughnut or pint of ice cream, when in reality all your body needs is lots of water and to replenish the electrolytes that are rapidly disappearing into the sewer system!
What is Keto Flu?
Keto flu is a combination of symptoms that you may experience when your body goes through carbohydrate/sugar withdrawal.
- Fatigue
- Headaches
- Nausea
- Constipation
- Brain fog
- Moodiness
Sugar is just as addictive as any hardcore drug, and when you remove it from your diet your body reacts in much the same way as it does when you remove heroin or cocaine.
Eating nutrient dense foods, and increasing your water and electrolytes with this Keto Electrolyte Drink will help your lessen the effects of that nasty keto flu.
Ingredients used is this homemade Keto Electrolyte Drink
- The juice of half of a lemon or lime
- Bragg raw, unfiltered organic Apple Cider Vinegar
- NoSalt (sometimes called NuSalt or LiteSalt)
- Unprocessed sea salt (I used Himalayan Pink)
- Pure Liquid Stevia
- LorAnn Oils super strength, 100% pure flavor oil (I used Orange)
- Sparkling mineral water (I used S. Pellegrino Essenza – Dark Morello Cherry and Pomegranate)
- A quart-sized Mason Jar
- Silicone or Metal straw – essential oils will dissolve plastic
How to make Keto Electrolyte Drink with apple cider vinegar
Add the lemon juice, apple cider vinegar, No-Salt, sea salt and stevia to the mason jar.
Fill the jar with sparkling mineral water, I used 2.5 cans.
Add the essential oil and stir to combine.
The oil will remain on top, just keep stirring with your straw to combine as you drink. This drink is best served cold. Chill your mineral water or add ice cubes before serving.
Recipe Tips & Tricks
- Add more or less stevia based on your own preferences. I added 14 drops!
- The essential oil helps to cut down the smell and taste of the vinegar. Regular extract is not as strong and contains alcohol, so stick with your favorite flavor of oil.

Note:
You will also need to increase your Magnesium intake, especially if you are starting out deficient like I was. I did not include magnesium in this drink, I prefer to take Magnesium tablets throughout the day. (5 mg per pound of body weight)
Enjoy!!

I made this with passion fruit sparking water, and it was delicious! Thanks!
Oooh, that sounds delicious Erika!!
This is great! Like a combination of a light, sugar free Gatorade and Kumbocha. Very refreshing and just the ticket to sip on all day – very helpful to keep electrolytes balanced. I prefer it on ice so I load a thermal cup that keeps all day. Only slightly different from the video, and the measurements work well. Warning…you’ll want to add the carbonated water LAST, and SLOWLY, as it creates a reaction that causes it to bubble up like a small volcano. If you add that first, you’ll have a mess on the counter (lesson learned the hard way). 🙂
This is so yummy! I was looking for an electrolyte recipe but all then had added sugars. This is a great option- thank you!
Thank you Natalie, I am so glad you like it!!
